Lt. Karla Taulbee, commander of the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, said troopers investigated the crash about 12:20 a.m. Saturday, approximately one mile west of Sedan Crabtree Road.
According to the report, Brown was traveling westbound on Crabtree Cemetery Road when the ATV drove off the left side of the road, struck two tree and overturned.
Both the driver and the passenger, another 17-year-old juvenile, were ejected from the ATV.
Brown was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center by EMS, where he died, the OSHP reported. The passenger was reported as uninjured.
Taulbee said the crash remains under investigation by the Portsmouth Post and further information will be released when available.
Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Botkin Funeral Home in Otway. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
A separate ATV accident has claimed the life of a Franklin Furnace man.
Loren Jeffrey Caudill, 44, died Friday at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., from injuries sustained in a Wednesday crash.
According to the Greenup County Sheriff’s Office, the South Shore Police Department handled the report on the crash, but department representatives were not available Monday afternoon.
Caudill was a 1984 graduate of Wheelersburg High School, and was the owner and chief technician of Precision Automotive Diagnostics and Repair in South Shore, and the former Caudill’s Auto Repair in New Boston.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Haverhill Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg.
