Bobcats stay perfect with win over Eastern

The Green Bobcats got a no-hitter from freshman Caleb Johnson en route to a 14-0 win over Eastern on Friday.

“He pounded the strike zone all night,” Green Coach Dan McDavid said. “He was on tonight and I was excited.”

Johnson also wracked up 10 strike outs.

Tyler Hughes blasted a grand slam in the second inning to boost Green to the win.

Wheelersburg 10, Northwest 0

The Wheelersburg Pirates kept their record unblemished after a 10-0 victory over the Mohawks at Northwest.

Wheelersburg was led by Austin Hall, who went 2-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Drew Parsley was 2-2 with three RBIs and Alex Shears was 1-3 with 2 RBIs.

Austin Boyer was the winning pitcher after striking out eight Mohawk batters.

Wheelersburg had ten hits and three errors in the game, while Northwest had two hits and one error.

The Minford Falcons scored a run in the top of the sixth and seventh innings to down West 2-1 on Friday at West.

Nikki Jakko scored the go-ahead run when Kelsey Conkey was thrown out on a play at second base, which allowed Jakko, who was on third base, to score.

Conkey picked up the win for Minford and fired six strike outs.

The Valley Lady Indians are still perfect on the year after knocking off South Webster 15-0 on Friday.

Valley did not score in the first inning, but more than made up for it by recording eight runs in the second inning, one in the third and another six in the fourth.

Valley’s Kayla Koch was credited as the winning pitcher after throwing eight strike outs.

The Waverly Lady Tigers got a 15-3 victory against Oak Hill on Friday, setting the stage for a showdown with the unbeaten Lady Indians in Lucasville on Monday.

“We played good ball. Last night we played at Jackson at won 9-2. Last two games, we haven’t had any errors,” Waverly coach Verlin Kritzwiser said. “That makes a difference... but we’ll see what we’re made of Monday night against Valley.”

The Green Bobcats scored five runs in the fifth inning en route to a 10-3 win over Eastern.

“The girls are playing with a lot of confidence right now and that’s fun to watch,” Green Coach Dale Royse said.

Jenna Crawfaord picked up the win for Green (5-2, 3-0) and had three strike outs.

Gidget Timberman led the way for Green with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate.

The Portsmouth Trojans downed Valley 5-0, in a match that almost did not happen.

PHS Coach Chris Cole said a stormed blew in right at match times, and both teams worked together to get the courts ready to play.

“Everyone got the courts ready,” Cole said. “Players had leaf blowers and squeegees and getting things ready to play.”

Winners for PHS in singles included Ian Rowland, Tanner Hatcher and Trevor Violette, while doubles teams of Robbie Shugert and Justin Ottney, and Caroline Khoury and Evan Sommer also won.
