Dulcimer workshop begins today

Rail City Dulcimer Society and others will host a weekend Dulcimer Workshop Friday and Saturday, March 11 and 12 in the lobby of the Jesse Stuart Lodge at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park, 965 Lodge Road, Greenup, Ky. 

On Friday, there will be dulcimer concerts from 6 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, there will be workshops and music from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free to public.

Scioto Foundation reservation deadline is today

The deadline to reserve a seat for the Scioto Foundation’s annual meeting, which will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 17, is Friday, March 11. The meeting will be held at the SOMC Friends Center, 1202 18th St., Brunch will be served. For more information call the foundation at (740) 354-4612.

SOMC offers breast cancer support group

A breast cancer support group is offered by the SOMC Cancer Center and volunteers to provide ongoing support and fellowship to women diagnosed with breast cancer.

The group will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at the SOMC Cancer Center, 1121 Kinneys Lane. The support group meets on the third Wednesday of each month.

Regina Tipton, wellness specialist at SOMC and Kim McCray, clinical dietician at SOMC will provide an educational presentation about healthy eating, diet and exercise.

Northwest Band boosters plans auction

The 21st annual Northwest Band Boosters Auction will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at the Northwest High School Cafetorium, 914 Mohawk Drive, McDermott. Donations will be accepted through April 5. Items that will not be accepted include used clothing and broken appliances.

Church organizes community clean-up day

In partnership with Porter Township, Wheelersburg Baptist Church is organizing a Community Clean-up Day on March 26 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Residents and businesses are invited to participate in a community-wide clean-up project the last Saturday in March. Porter Township will provide gloves, trash bags, and vests to all volunteers, and Wheelersburg Baptist will assign individuals specific areas in the community that need particular attention. A light lunch will also be provided by the church.

Volunteers can meet at Wheelersburg Baptist Church (11712 Gallia Pike), across from the Wheelersburg Post Office, anytime between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to receive an assignment and supplies. Groups and individuals are welcome. Even one hour of volunteering can make a difference.
