Corporal Lucas C. Scott, age 20, our son, brother, nephew, and grandson was KIA in Afghanistan on Dec. 3, 2010. Luke turned 20 three days before his death. He was dedicated and was compassionate about his service in the Marines. We, Luke's family, would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, phone calls, visits, food, and everything everyone did. We would like to thank Northwest Schools and Community, and Peebles High School and the Peebles Community for their overwhelming support during the time of our loss. Words can never touch the surface for the kindness and love shown to us during this much difficult time. Luke wrote this poem for a project during his high school years, and Luke was a soldier who never got to come home.
Men have gone to war for so many years.
Some come home and some don't.
Some want to go and others want to stay.
Many don't mind or care and others are bothered.
Some cry while others cheer.
To keep families safe from harm.
To protect the unprotected.
To help the weak.
Men must go they say while we stay.
We pay the price for life.
But we do it anyway.
You can't ask for anything more.
Men should be strong and do what's right.
For honor, courage, country,
Brothers we stand and brothers we fall.
Thanks to everyone for everything. Your generosity will never be forgotten.
