It was senior night Thursday night at Valley High School and the Lady Indians wanted to give their three seniors something to cheer about in their final conference game.

The mission was accomplished as they defeated South Webster 48-30. Junior Whitney Bear scored 13 of her game-high 26 points in the first quarter.

“Great contributions from Whitney Bear, coming up big in the first quarter,” Valley coach Mark Merritt said.

Bear also had seven rebounds and five assists in the victory.

Mariah Sullivan paced the Lady Jeeps with 11 points in the defeat.

The trio of Breonna Baldridge, Kaitlyn Patrick and Shelby Ellis — which combined for nine points in the game — will play their final home game Saturday night against Chesapeake with the reserve game starting at 6 p.m. Merritt said he appreciates the contributions of his seniors.

The final game of the year for the Lady Indians will be Monday as they travel to Greenup County.

Piketon 42, Zane Trace 39

The Piketon Lady Redstreaks celebrated senior night with a 42-39 victory over Zane Trace. After the win, Piketon's 14th of the year, Piketon head coach Brett Coreno dedicated the victory to his seniors — particularly one that wasn't on the court.

"One of our seniors, Tori Pelphrey, broke her tibia last game," Coreno said. "She's out for the year.

"Our team is pretty close," Coreno added. "Those seniors that led the way... I start two freshman, and I had no complains from those seniors. They accepted their roles, and what better way to finish senior night than with a three point victory over a very good Zane Trace team."

Piketon was led in scoring by junior Elisha Manley, who had 14 points.
