Ruth Kathlene Compton, 59 of McDermott, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011 at her residence.

She was born Sept. 7, 1951 in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Raymond and Estolene Adkins Phipps.

Kathy was a homemaker, a former nurse’s aide for Edgewood Manor in Lucasville, and a member of Big Run United Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, James Richard Compton whom she married Nov. 4, 1967 in Lucasville; one daughter Shawna (Garrett) Pendleton of Lucasville; three sons James (Michelle) Compton Jr. of McDermott, Raymond “Todd” Compton of Lucasville, and Deke (Deanna) Compton of McDermott; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Rick and Tim Phipps of Lucasville.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the Big Run United Baptist Church with Monroe Montgomery and Corbet Jenkins officiating. Friends may call for an hour before the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville.
