Patrick Henry Porter, 61, of Lucasville, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born July 6, 1949 in Richlands, Virginia, a son of the late William Edward and Melva Grace Shannon Porter.

Pat was a welder for the CSX Railroad for 30 years, a U.S. Air Force Vietnam War veteran, and a 1967 Valley High School graduate. He also completed a two year Scioto County Joint Vocational Welding School Program.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Elizabeth Kiley Porter whom he married March 1, 1972 in Lucasville; one daughter Patricia (Shannon) Charles of Lucasville; one son Jon (Peggy) Chadwick of Virginia Beach, Virginia; five grandchildren Brandon and Cody Charles, Matt, Kaylie, and Amanda Chadwick; two stepsons Robert (Mary) Chadwick of Tulia, Texas and Denny (Patti) Chadwick of Aurora, Colorado; nine stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-granddaughter; one brother J.D. (Brenda) Porter of Flowery Branch, Georgia; and four sisters Doris (Clyde) Evans of Wheelersburg, Carol Porter and Maudie Porter both of Leesburg, Ohio, and Linda (Kevin) Raisley of Columbus, Ohio.

He was also preceded in death by his sister Virginia Groves and his brother Bill Porter.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Friday, Jan 21, 2011 at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville with Jon Chadwick officiating. Burial will follow in Lucasville Cemetery where military graveside rites will be performed by the William A Baker and James Irwin Posts of the American Legion. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and for an hour before the service Friday at the funeral home.
