SSU hoops squads have mixed weekend

The Shawnee State women's basketball teams split a two-game weekend road trip in New York while the men lost both of its games at the Cedarville Tournament.

Both teams play tonight in their home season debuts. The women start off action with a 6 p.m. tip-off against Midway (Ky.) College while the men are slated to start at eight against UC Clermont.

The women lost Friday night 68-53 against host Daemen but defeated Houghton 68-69 in Saturday night's action. The Lady Bears (4-2) were led Friday night by Abby Ballman with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Tabitha McKinney scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in Saturday's win.

The men dropped a 103-89 decision to St. Francis (Ind.) Friday night and lost 83-79 to Indiana Wesleyan in Saturday night's action.

Mark Bryant scored 21 points to lead the Bears against in the first game while Tyler Boyles' 28 points Saturday night was the most by a Shawnee State (1-3) player.

The men’s team is at home for two more games after tonight’s contest before heading back on the road while the women have some time off before travelling for a pair of conference games against Campbellsville and St. Catherine.
