HILLSBORO — After a series of disappointing losses, the Waverly Post 142 Shockers have rebounded and returned to a winning record, as well as positioning themselves in a two seed bid for the upcoming tournament. After defeating Hillsboro Post 129, 11-2, the Shockers look to extend their winning momentum as tournament season draws near.

“We did what we had to do at the plate,” Waverly Post 142 coach Jonathan Teeters said. “We had four guys with multiple hits and had a lot of good at-bats.”

Derek Burk, Ryan Williams, Eli Daniels and Jared Alley all had a pair of hits in the 11-2 routing of Hillsboro Post 129 Wednesday evening at Schaffer Park in Hillsboro, Ohio.

Burk went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Williams hit 2-for-3 from the plate while also adding an RBI.

Daniels drove in two runs, along with hitting a double in his 2-for-5 appearance at the plate, while Alley went 2-for-5, scored twice and stole a base.

Brody Shoupe, Hayden Baker and Garret Moore also produced at the plate for the Shockers.

Shoupe went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, which was followed up by Baker’s 1-for-3 night along with an RBI. Although Moore went 0-for-2 at the plate, he drove in two runs for Post 142 in their win over Post 129.

Alex Powell helped the Shockers’ cause from the mound, as the Post 142 hurler controlled the strike zone throughout the game, according to Teeters.

“Alex (Powell) was a little rusty there early, but he settled in and was vintage Knox on the hill,” Teeters said. “He pounded the zone and let his defense work for him.”

Powell pitched a complete game for Post 142, finishing with seven innings pitched and allowed two runs, only one of which was earned, off five hits. He also walked three batters.

After defeating Circleville Post 129 the Shockers clinched a two-seed bid in the upcoming tournament.

“This is right where we need to be heading into tournament play,” Teeters said.

Before the tournament begins Monday, the Shockers will face-off against Portsmouth Post 23 at Branch Rickey Park Friday afternoon. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. in a twice-postponed make-up game.

With the win over Circleville Post 129, Post 142 improves their record to 14-11, with a 6-2 Region V league record.
