Titans take out Vikings, 2-0

PORTSMOUTH — Just a few days after CJ Corns struck out 15 Symmes Valley batters in a win over the Vikings, Notre Dame had another dominant pitching performance. Hayden Baker pitched the Notre Dame Titans into another win against the Symmes Valley Vikings, to complete the regular season sweep against their SOC I rival.

Baker nearly pitched a complete game shutout against the Vikings, going six and one-third innings, allowed only one hit, and walked five. The Notre Dame senior dominated the Symmes Valley batters on Wednesday evening, striking out 15 batters during his time on the mound.

As Baker dominated the Vikings on the mound, the Titans took advantage of his performance and scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, which was all they needed to get the win, and take both regular season games against the Vikings.

Drew Cassidy led the Titans at the plate Wednesday evening, going 2-4 on the night. Cassidy also came in to relieve Baker in the seventh inning, pitching two-thirds of an inning to get the save. He struck out one batter in the process.

C. Rodriguez went 1-3 against the Vikings, and drove in both of the Titans runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Baker had success from the plate as well, getting one hit in the game, and scored a run. Baker also drew a walk.

Tyler Speas officially went 0-0 on Wednesday, he scored one of the two Notre Dame runs, and was walked twice.

In all, the Titans finished the night with five hits, and committed a single error, while getting the 2-0 victory.

Despite the loss, Symmes Valley’s Gothard had a good showing on the mound. Gothard pitched six innings for the Vikings giving up two runs, both earned, off five hits, and walked five batters. He struck out seven Notre Dame batters as well.

The Titans will continue conference play on Friday evening, when they host the Green Bobcats in SOC I play. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. The two teams will then finish their regular season series on Monday evening in Franklin Furnace with another 5:00 p.m. start.
