West shutout by Rock Hill

PEDRO, Ohio — The West Lady Senators fell to the Rock Hill Ironwomen Saturday at the Rock Hill ‘Queen of the Hill’ softball tournament by a score of 6-0.

Rock Hill’s Jill Hairston pitched an almost perfect game, not giving up a hit until the fifth inning. West pitcher Taylor Coleman had the only hit of the game for the Senators while Terra Butcher also reached on an error.

“Usually we are a better hitting team than that,” admitted West Head Coach Dani Coleman. “Their pitcher has a really good changeup. She took about 15 miles per hour off each one and caught the girls off guard.”

West’s Coleman pitched all seven innings for the Senators. While she did give up 11 hits, she limited the Ironwomen to just six runs spread out through the course of the game. With multiple runners on base she kept her poise and grinded out at bats to get outs.

“Taylor worked hard for us,” said Coleman. “She moved the ball around and had good placement. She kept the ball low.

“We have to focus on what we did right. Defensively we were solid. We are usually a dominating team, we just have to work on the tough pitches; off speeds and change ups. Offensively, they came out stronger than us today. We just have to execute better.”
