Brooke Pierron was awarded a Southeast District Athletic Board (SEDAB) scholarship — one of 11 scholarships awarded to athletes in southeast Ohio.

One of the criteria for the selection process was excelling in the classroom as well as athletically, which fit the former Notre Dame superstar.

“All of my coaches have always made a point to be successful in the classroom before being successful on a court or on a field,” Pierron said. “Your sports’ success only last so long, but your academic achievements and the things you learn in the classroom in high school are what you are going to have to take with you to college.”

According to Pierron, the scholarship took team accomplishments into account. When she filled out the application, Pierron noted her individual accomplishments as well as her team’s success — in volleyball, basketball and softball.

“It was very rewarding,” Pierron said. “It was fun looking back over the last four years, looking at the accomplishments of my school.”

Each member high school had an opportunity to submit one senior male and one senior female candidate for consideration. Notre Dame principal Kathy Milligan decided Pierron would be a perfect fit to meet the requirements.

“It’s an honor that she thought of my when she first read the requirements,” Pierron said. “It’s good to know she noticed and appreciated the hard work I put into the things I was doing at the school because I really liked the school and I enjoyed seeing us have success.”

This scholarship will be used with Pierron’s other academic and athletic scholarships when she enrolls in Ave Maria University.
