JACKSON – The Minford Falcons defeated the Jackson Ironmen Wednesday night by a score of 70-49. Trey Kelley led the way with 21.

The first quarter was tight, ending with a 20-14 score. The Falcons managed to keep the Ironmen below their first quarter total the rest of the game, however, clamping down on shooters and limiting their free throw opportunities. Minford outscored Jackson by 11 points in the second quarter and never looked back.

Jared Alley finished with 15 and Rowe had 10 for Minford on the night. Now Coach Shoemaker and the Falcons prepare for to play the Ironton Tigers on Monday during the Wendy’s classic. The Tigers (3-4) are better than their record implies, as they came very close to beating the Huntington Highlanders last week. Huntington is favored to take the West Virginia Class 3A state title.

Minford (7-1) must limit Ironton’s leader, senior guard Phil Kratzenberg. The Falcons have seen consistent double teams of Rowe thus far, and Trey Kelley and Jared Alley are taking advantage of more open shots and lanes to the basket. Expect a good game Monday night. Tipoff is at 5:00 at Portsmouth High School.
