Portsmouth prevails against Pointers, Hornets

The Portsmouth volleyball team played its third-straight five-set match on Tuesday night. But unlike the previous two matches, the Trojans came out a winner.

Portsmouth defeated South Point 15-25, 25-19, 20-25, 26-24, 15-9 at Portsmouth High School.

Allison Douthat led the way for Portsmouth, pacing the Trojan offense with 31 assists to go along with 14 points and three aces. Aiden Fields recorded a team-high 14 kills in addition to seven points and five aces, and Anne Marie Raies added 12 kills of her own.

After three marathon matches, the Trojans (8-3, 6-1 OVC) were able to make quick work of Coal Grove on Thursday, sweeping the Hornets 25-8, 25-10, 25-12. Lyda Spencer had a big day behind the service line, coming up with team highs in points (14) and aces (7). Fields also came up with seven aces in addition to 10 points and a team-high 13 kills. Baleigh Bradley led the way defensively with five digs.

Portsmouth takes the floor on Monday, when they host Valley in a non-conference matchup.
