‘Burg rolls to easy victory over Coal Grove

Wheelersburg def. Coal Grove 3-0 (25-8, 25-5, 25-13)

Behind a dominating effort from Mallory Bergan and a complete effort from the Wheelersburg Pirates’ volleyball program in all phases of the game, Wheelersburg faced no trouble in a Division III Sectional Final matchup against Coal Grove as the Lady Pirates cruised to a straight-set victory over Coal Grove (25-8, 25-5, 25-13) on Saturday afternoon in Wheelersburg.

Bergan, who obtained an outstanding 24 service points — including 20 in a row in the second set — also obtained 10 digs, six kills, four aces, and four blocks to round out an outstanding effort for the Lady Pirates. Alli McQuay and Adyson Rase combined for 20 kills on the frontline, while Abbie Kallner collected 28 assists to head up the frontline.

Ellie Ruby, who obtained 15 digs, eight service points, and an ace on the evening, rounded out the stellar work for the Lady Pirates on Saturday as Wheelersburg improved to 21-2 overall on the year.

With the win, the Lady Pirates will advance to face North Adams on Tuesday evening in the Division III District Semifinals, which will be held in Waverly. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
