Clay volleyball picks up two wins

The Clay volleyball team has opened up the 2015 season at 2-0, earning wins over both Northwest and Manchester.

On Tuesday, the Panthers won a thrilling five-game match over the Greyhounds at home, winning 17-25, 25-18, 25-15, 19-25, 15-12. Clay got superb defense all night long, led by Jensen Warnock with 20 kills, with Skylar Artis and Shae Vassar finishing right behind her with 19 and 18 digs, respectively. Gabby Hickman (13 kills) and Lynlee Wells (12 kills) also has strong games defensively for the Panthers.

Hickman paced the Clay offense throughout the match, coming up with 36 assists. Many of those passes went to Warnock, who finished with a team-high 16 kills.

The Panthers followed up their marathon match by sweeping Northwest on Thursday, winning 25-13, 25-9, 25-20. Wells proved to be offensive leader for Clay, recording a team-high seven kills. Vassar finished as the defensive leader with 12 digs, and Wells recorded seven kills.

The Panthers take the court again on Saturday, when they host a tri-match at home on Saturday at noon.
