The Portsmouth volleyball team began its quest for a second-straight OVC conference championship on Tuesday evening by sweeping the Coal Grove Hornets 25-12, 25-18, 25-12.

The Trojans (2-0) used solid serving to help secure the victory. Bailey Horsley led the way with 14 points and six aces, while Allison Douthat and Aiden Fields each recorded three ace4s.

Douthat helped pace the Portsmouth offense by totaling 19 assists throughout the evening.

Fields led the way offensively for Portsmouth, recording nine kills throughout the match. Horsley finished right behind her with seven kills.

Tuesday’s win was Portsmouth’s 13 consecutive win in OVC dating back to last season. In 2014, the Trojans swept the conference by going 12-0 and earning the school’s first OVC title.

Portsmouth will take the court again on Monday, when they cross the Scioto to take on rival West.
