Over the duration of his career, Scott Cayton has been regarded as one of the veterans of the coaching profession due to his knowledge of the game and his class in teaching it.
However, while Cayton, who is also in his 33rd year of teaching, loves the game of basketball, he has a family to attend to. That’s why one of Southeastern Ohio’s brightest coaching minds is leaving the profession. Cayton’s departure at Clay was confirmed to the Daily Times by Clay athletic director Mark Rose on Friday afternoon.
Cayton, who was in his third season at Clay, took the Lady Panthers from an 8-16 overall record in 2016 to a 14-9 mark in 2017 as Clay recorded its first winning campaign since 2014. The Lady Panthers lost in the Division IV, Jackson II Sectional Finals to Leesburg Fairfield.
A link to apply for the coaching position has been posted in the employment section of the Clay website. Interested candidates have until next Friday to apply for the job.
