PORTSMOUTH — The Shawnee State women’s soccer team was selected to finish fourth in the 2015 Mid-South Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll, while the men’s soccer and volleyball teams were picked to finish sixth, conference officials announced Wednesday.

The SSU women’s soccer team enters 2015 after posting a 4-3 record in conference play, finishing the season with a 10-9 overall record.

The men’s soccer team will look to improve upon a 4-12-3 overall record in 2014, while the volleyball team hopes to break out after a 7-7 conference record last season.

In women’s soccer, perennial favorite and reigning Mid-South regular season and tournament champion – as well as NAIA national champion – Lindsey Wilson was selected to finish first with seven first place votes following a 6-0-1 conference record en route to the national championship. The Blue Raiders were also selected as the preseason conference favorites in men’s soccer and volleyball.

Shawnee State opens its 2015 women’s soccer slate with back-to-back road bouts at Rochester College and Ohio Valley University on Aug. 21 and 22, and open Mid-South Conference play on Sept. 12 versus St. Catharine College in Portsmouth. Men’s soccer opens its season on Aug. 21 on the road in Tennessee against Columbia International. Volleyball also opens its season on Aug. 21, when they travel to Montreat, N.C. for the Volley in the Mountains tournament.
