In semi-final sectional play Wednesday the South Webster Jeeps toped the White Oak Wildcats 57 to 39.

“We knew it was going to be a physical game,” said South Webster Coach Ryan Fenton. “We were in for a lot of physical contact, White Oak’s record is deceiving, every coach I’ve talked to said they are dangerous, they are physical and they play hard, and we did.”

“We knew it was going to be an absolute grind for us to get through it,” continued Fenton, “But I’m proud of the kids for responding and coming away with the win”.

“I expected to compete and give everything we had and I thought we did,” stated White Oak Coach Jeremy McGraw. “We came in here off of two wins after a down season, and I really believed our kids had a chance, and for three and a half quarter we gave South Webster everything they wanted, and that’s all you can ask for from your players.”

Senior Alek Blevins led the Jeeps to victory with 15 points, while Seniors Matthew Shockwiler and Shane Zimmerman both added 12, and sophomore Shiloah Blevins contributed 11 to the win.

“Zimmerman ended up with four assists,” stated Fenton. “I thought Matthew Shockwiler did a good job running the point and Alek Blevins was phenomenal for us, running the floor defensively held their best player to 12 points which is great, and he still lead us in scoring.”

“Blevins did a great job for us, setting the tone, running the floor, and again, we’re going to need that from our seniors moving forward,” finished Coach Fenton.

For White Oak, Trevor Yeager lead the scoring with 13, while Steven Ross contributed seven points to the loss.

“Steven Ross, Trevor Yeager, and Trenton Hamilton stepped up offensively for us tonight and carried the load,” stated Coach McGraw. “Defensively Mike Crow did a great job for us guarding Zimmerman.”

“I firmly believe that the foundation is set for White Oak moving forward,” said McGraw. “We’ve got the kids in the right places, as long as they work hard.”

“We have Peebles, the three seed, a very good team,” stated Jeeps Coach Fenton. “They have a great guard and several phenomenal athletes around him. But as long as we take this week seriously and work hard we’ve got a strong chance. But if we want to get to the Convo it’s going to be an absolute battle.”
