Shawnee State men’s basketball fell on the road Thursday night, losing to (RV) Lindsey Wilson 71-55.
The Bears kept the game close in the first half, with the largest Lindsey Wilson lead being only eight points. Tamal Watkins had 14 points at halftime, including a three pointer with 39 seconds remaining in the half to cut the Lindsey lead to 30-26 at the break.
The Bears would hang around early in the half, but Lindsey Wilson would methodically build their lead up throughout the half. Shawnee State would trail by eight with 4:59 to go but would not get any closer than that, and the Blue Raiders would hit free throws in the last minute to seal the game.
Tamal Watkins was the only Bear in double figure points, scoring 19 to lead all scorers. J Murrell had four points but pulled in 12 rebounds.
Bryan Wallace led Lindsey Wilson with 18 points. Nic Brown contributed a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Allen Costley also had 14 points, and Dmitry Utolin added 13 for the Blue Raiders.
With the loss, Shawnee State falls to 8-18 on the season and are 1-12 in the Mid-South Conference. Lindsey Wilson improve to 19-10 and are 6-7 in the league.
Shawnee State conclude the regular season on Saturday, February 25th when they travel to Lebanon, Tennessee to take on Cumberland. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00pm Eastern.
