From a Trojan to a Baron, Portsmouth’s Andi Queen signed with Franciscan University of Steubenville, where she will play softball. For Queen, this opportunity is the fulfillment of a lifetime goal.
“Since I was a little girl, I have dreamed of playing college softball. So, this is a dream come true,” Queen stated.
Queen said she will most likely be pitching and playing first base. With her, Queen will be taking an incredible work ethic.
“I am always willing for extra practice,” Queen commented.
Before choosing Franciscan, Queen said she visited another college and was in the talks with several other coaches, but after one campus visit, she knew where she belonged.
“I only visited one other school-Bluffton College, but I was also talking to the coaches at Otterbein University and Marietta College,” she stated. “When I visited campus, I knew I was supposed to be there. Not only would I have the change to continue playing the sport I love, but I will be academically challenged as well as continue to deepen my faith.
The university’s ability to nourish her faith is a leading reason for Queen choosing to play for Franciscan. She explained that the school just has the right balance of faith, academics and athletics to suit her needs.
“I am so thankful and excited for the chance to continue playing,” Queen stated humbly.
This young athlete also showed apprecition for the people that have influenced her in life, stating, “I am so grateful for those who have helped me get to where I am-academically, athletically, and spiritually. I am so thankful for my parents. My dad spent hours on a bucket teaching me to pitch, and my mom was never lacking in encouraging words and when I needed criticism. I would not be here without my coaches-especially Coach Bradshaw as she helped me contach coaches and find Franciscan”
For Queen, this is one big goal that will start her on her future where other dreams are waiting to come true.
