Coal Grove advances over Nelsonville-York

The Coal Grove Hornets boy basketball team had a staggering win over Nelsonville-York Monday night, beating the Buckeyes 49-34. Though the game started out close, it didn’t take long for the Hornets to pull away. Nelsonville-York led the first quarter. The Buckeyes and Hornets tied at 15 with two minutes left in the second quarter, but Coal Grove added five more and gave away none, finished the quarter in the lead. Coal Grove would continue to hold the lead throughout the rest of the game.

Aaron Music led the Hornet victory, scoring 13 points. He scored from one-two point basket, three-three point baskets and two of two free throws. Mark Sites added another eight points.

Leading for Coal Grove was Aron Davis with 15 points. Davis also led the game. He earned his points from six-two point baskets and one of two successful free throws.

The loss knocks Nelsonville-York out of tournaments. Coal Grove will go on to play against Fairland at 6 p.m. on Friday at Jackson High School.
