The Minford Falcons girls basketball team were fierce and determined during Saturday’s Ohio High School Athletic Association’s (OHSAA) sectional finals at Rock Hill on Saturday, beating South Point 67-45. The win will take the Falcons on to the next round of tournaments, knocking South Point out of the games.
Ashley Blankenship led the Falcons with her best games thus far. Blankenship scored 31 points from 12-two point baskets and seven of nine free throws. Also leading for the Falcons was the reliable Erin Daniels, who scored 19 points. Daniels scored six-two point baskets, one-three point basket and four of five free throws.
The South Point Lady Pointers fought hard to make it this far; however, they were just not prepared for the Falcons. Leading for South Point was Emily Carey with 13 points.
Minford will go on to face Alexander at noon on Saturday at Waverly High School. The Wheelersburg Pirates will also play Saturday at Waverly against North Adams. The winner of the two games will compete for the Championship March 3 at 8:15 p.m.
