Ironton girls head to district semifinals

The Ironton and Chesapeake girls basketball teams battled it out at Rock Hill during Saturday’s Ohio High School Athletic Association’s (OHSAA) District tournaments at Rock Hill. The two teams finished just a point apart, with Ironton taking the game 43-42.

Lexie Arden and Sydney Webb led the Tigers to victory, with Lexi Wise scoring the final points. Ending the game, the ‘Peake took the lead 42-41 with less than minute on the clock. Wise came out with two free throws to put Ironton back on top. Those were Wise’s only two points of the game. Arden scored 15 points from two-three, four-twos and one of three free throws, and Webb scored 11 points from one-three and four-twos.

Leading for Chesapeake was Natalee Hall with 17 points from seven-twos and one-three and Dominique Murphy with 12 points from one-three, three-twos and three of four free throws.

The Tigers will go on to the Division III district semi-finals against Southeastern at 8 p.m. Thursday at Waverly High School.
