The Bears hold a halftime lead but slip up in the second half

Shawnee State men’s basketball lost their fourth straight on Saturday afternoon, falling to (RV) Lindsey Wilson 80-70 at Waller Gymnasium.

The Bears and Blue Raiders played a back and forth first half, and Shawnee State would find themselves in a familiar situation by leading by two at halftime. But just like Thursday’s game, the Blue Raiders would quickly jump ahead at the start of the second half. The Bears would keep it close in the second half before a quick 7-0 run by the Blue Raiders made the score 74-64 with 2:24 to go, and Lindsey Wilson would close the game with free throws from there.

Jayllen Carter had 16 points to lead SSU in scoring. Frederick Moore had 13 points and Tamal Watkins added 12.

Dmitry Utolin scored a game-high 18 points for Lindsey Wilson. Charles Sutton and Bryan Wallace each contributed 17 points, and Hannes Erhardt added 12.

With the loss, Shawnee State fall to 7-12 and are 0-7 in the Mid-South Conference. Lindsey Wilson improve to 15-7, and are 3-4 in the league.

The Bears are in action again on Thursday, January 26th when they host #18 Cumberlands (Ky.) to kick off Homecoming Weekend. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
