HS athletes honor local sports legend

Staff Report

The Valley Lady Indians visited Portsmouth West last Thursday, for their second conference meeting of the 2016-17 season. The first meeting ended as Makayla White’s short jumper rolled off the rim at the buzzer.

Not only was this game an exciting contest put on by both squads, but at halftime the Portsmouth West community was proud to honor a local sports icon-their own 1962 graduate, Roger Gray. Roger was presented a gift with his likeness as well as a standing ovation by all in attendance. Gray has been broadcasting sports for over 38 years locally, by far the longest tenure of all media outlets.

Valley took the win, beating West 47-42.
