The Minford Lady Falcons and the Wheelersburg Lady Pirates battled it on in Falcon territory Monday night.

The Minford Lady Falcons and the Wheelersburg Pirates fought it out Monday night, pushing each other into the final seconds on the clock. Both teams came out aggressive and determined to win, keeping the game very close. ‘Burg ultimately won the match 56-53.

Wheelersburg Head Coach Dusty Spradlin admitted that he was nervous at times, referring to the game as being very emotional.

“I remember thinking, ‘What a slugfest,’” Spradlin commented.

Both teams have played hard this season and are two of the best in the league. Neither team expected the game to be easy.

“It was a great game. I think it was what everyone expected it to be,” said Spradlin.

The coach added that it was a well fought game of runs in which every player on either team should be commended.

“I think all the kids that played played hard. These kids expended a lot of energy on both sides,” he stated.

Falcon Head Coach Scott Caudill referred to the game as one that came down to possessions. Minford did a few things wrong, which contributed to the loss.

“We weren’t at our best against a really good team,” he said. “We got out rebounded, and they got every loose ball.”

‘Burg was led by Makayla Akers with 18 points. She was followed by Kalle Coleman with 15 points and Abbie Kallner with 14.

“Coleman hit some big runs. She shot three threes in the third quarter, which helped us get the advantage,” Spradline commented.

The Falcons were led by Caitlyn Puckett with 14 points and Erin Daniels with 12 points.

“Puckett really came to play. She had a great game,” Caudill stated.

He added that Daniels was coming back from illness and not at her full capasity.

The Falcons will go on to play at West on Thursday. Caudill says they will contine to do what they do and work towards continuous improvment.

“We need to get more discipline,” he stated.

West will go on to play at home against Oak Hill Thursday. Spradlin stated that he is giving the girls a day off on Tueday and then will have them back in the gym Wednesday.
