The Minford Lady Falcons had a big win Thursday night on the road against the Northwest Mohawks, winning 54-39. The win was a welcome victory leading into their big game against the Wheelersburg Lady Pirates coming Monday.

Northwest fell behind early in the game and attempted to come back in the second, but Minford was already too far ahead.

“It was a great team win for us,” said Falcon Head Coach Scott Caudill. “I would like to say Northwest played really hard tonight.”

The Falcons were led by Abby Grasso who scored 16 points and had three big three pointers in the first half. Following behind Grasso was Erin Daniels who scored 15 points from one-three point basket, five-two pointers and two of two free throws.

Caudill explained that both Grasso and Daniels are leaders for the Falcons. Caudill added that Grasso played exceptionally well.

“It was a really big night for Abby,” he stated. “Abby’s a really good shooter. When she plays like she did tonight, we have a really good team.”

Caudill added that he hopes this game gives Abby more confidence to help her reach her potential.

When discussing Daniels, Caudill stated, “Erin does a good job taking care of and sharing the ball.”

He added that Daniels does so much for the team besides being a good shooting, things that don’t show up on a scoreboard such as rebounds and assists.

Shae Patty came out as the leading scorer for the Mohawks, scoring 13 points from four-two point field goals, one-three pointer and hitting two of two free throws. Patty was the only Mohawk scoring in the double digits.

Northwest will play again on Monday against West at home while Minford goes on to what Caudill says could be one of the biggest games of the season.

The Falcons will face the Wheelersburg Pirates Monday night at home. Caudill says that they have scouted ‘Burg multiple times this season.

“We know what they’re going to do,” Caudill stated.

Still, he is not expecting an easy game nor would he want one.

“It’s going to be a battle. That’s what everyone’s expecting,” he commented.

The coach confirmed that the Falcons are excited for the competition.

“We look forward to it,” he concluded.
