Men’s Basketball falls late at Ohio Dominican 62-61

Columbus, Ohio – Shawnee State men’s basketball led for most of the night, but fell to a late three against Ohio Dominican 62-61.

The Bears led most of the evening, holding a late 55-48 lead with 4:48 to go. The lead would not hold, as Ohio Dominican chipped away to cut the lead to 61-59 with 18 seconds to go. ODU’s Ryan Hoyng would drive the lane, kick back to Shemar Waugh, who would then pass to an open Hasan Varence on the right wing, who would bury the three with 3.8 seconds remaining to give the Panthers the win.

Frederick Moore led the way for Shawnee State with 12 points and nine rebounds, highs in both categories. Corey Benton added 11 points.

Ronnie Williams led Ohio Dominican in scoring with 17 points. Varence had 11, and Mike DeLeon had 10.

With the loss, Shawnee State falls to 6-8 on the season. Ohio Dominican improves to 7-5.

The Bears are back in action on Monday, January 2nd when tthey host Indiana Tech. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00pm.
