WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Shawnee State women’s basketball picked up their 11th consecutive victory on Monday night, defeating University of the Cumberlands in Mid-South Conference action 72-64.
The Bears would push to an early lead and never trail in the contest, extending the lead to as many as 16 points by the end of the first half. Cumberlands would cut the lead to as few as four in the third quarter, but would get no closer. Shawnee State would hold Cumberlands off, sealing the game with free throws down the stretch.
Jonessa Moore, fresh off of being named Mid-South Conference Player of the Week, scored 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Shawnee State. Madison Ridout was the only other Bear in double figures, scoring 12.
Cheyenne Madden scored 24 for Cumberlands, with Samia Carter adding 16.
With the win, Shawnee State continue their best regular season start since 2008-09 by moving to 11-0, and are 2-0 in the Mid-South Conference. Cumberlands fall to 5-3, and are now 1-1 in the Mid-South.
Shawnee State is next in action on Saturday, Dec. 3, when it travels back to Kentucky to take on Georgetown. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
