The Notre Dame Titans took down the Wheelersburg Pirates Monday evening, continuing there undefeated league play record, which now stands at 10-0.
Entering the game, both teams were undefeated in SOC conference play, with each team only losing one non-conference game all season. The Titans came out on top and stayed on top the entire night by sweeping the Pirates in three sets.
Lady Titans head coach Kelsey Glockner was pleased with her team’s overall performance.
“We had a tough loss last week against Unioto, so we came back this week and refocused,” Glockner said. “Wheelersburg has a really good and respectable program and this is a game that you’re always going to have to come out and earn, so we got in the gym and got after it, executing the game plan.”
Wheelersburg started the first set out strong in the first few minutes, leading the Pirates 13-6. Momentum changed quickly, however, as the Titans went on an 11-1 point rally, taking the lead making the match 17-14. Once Notre Dame had gained the lead, they never looked back, winning the first match 25-19.
Notre Dame continued on to win the second and third set, starting out with the lead and keeping it for the entire two sets. Wheelersburg stayed close in the third set, attempting to try and take the lead against Notre Dame, but came up just short, ending the match in a Titan sweep.
Wheelersburg head coach Kendra Colemen was pleased with her squad’s effort.
“We stayed in the fight, we could’ve folded that third game and just let it go, but I felt like we stuck to the end and did what we could it just wasn’t our night,” Coleman said.
Glockner wasted little time as she began focus on Notre Dame’s next opponent.
“Tomorrow (Tuesday) we play Clay,” Glockner said. “We are undefeated in league play right now. Clay will be a huge league game, so after tonight, once we wake up that’s our main focus. One game at a time”
The results of the Notre Dame-Clay match or the match between Wheelersburg-Oak Hill were not available at press time.
