Shawnee Labor Council’s Keyser moving on Portia Williams

After working for the Shawnee Labor Council for the last seven years as Secretary/Treasurer, working with other organizations to circumvent the passing of State Bill 5 and competing in the race for County Commissioner, Cherice Keyser said it is now time to move on.
Keyser is heading north to Michigan to begin work with SEIU Local 1 beginning April 15.

Pertuset named farmer of the year Wayne Allen

Darren Pertuset was recently named the Portsmouth Area Chamber of Commerce Farmer of the Year for 2013. Pertuset is the third person in his family to receive this award.
Pertuset’s grandfather Frank won the award in 1983. His father Jim won the award in 1997.

With the snow and heavy rains earlier this week and a clogged downspout on the roof of the Scioto County Courthouse, the offices of the Fourth District Court of Appeals Judge Matt McFarland’s were flooded. Mayor: Tracy Park will not be closed Frank Lewis

Portsmouth Mayor David Malone says the falling of a tree onto a playground in Tracy Park will not cause the park to close.
“Mr. (Bill) Beaumont (City Service Director) hasn’t indicated there is any danger,” Malone said. “When they clean up the tree that did fall, once that is taken care of, everything should be OK.”
