Fluor-B&W Portsmouth’s Byron Park and Benny King have earned the Silver Cross Award, the highest safety award offered by Fluor Corporation, for their actions to save the life of Randy Mains.
Park and King rushed to aid Mains after he was seriously injured in an electric cart accident March 14 in one of the process buildings at the Department of Energy (DOE) Portsmouth Site in Piketon. Their swift response bought the time needed for Site emergency personnel to arrive on the scene.
During a ceremony held in April in Piketon, a thoughtful email from Mains was read to an audience from Fluor-B&W’s new safety work group program. In the email, Mains expressed his thanks and deep appreciation to those who provided life-saving treatment.
The Silver Cross Award is a distinguished award presented by Fluor, reserved for those who step forward to help another person in an emergency situation. The award is the highest honor presented worldwide by the company.
Fluor-B&W Portsmouth is a cleanup contractor awarded a contract by the DOE in 2010 for the decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) of the outdated buildings and systems of the former gaseous diffusion plant at the Site.
