Methamphetamine continues to rear its head as the latest recreational drug being abused in the region. Joshua D. Oliver, 32, of 1538 11th St., Portsmouth, is charged with illegal assembly and/or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of methamphetamine, a third-degree felony, and probation violation, after being arrested early Wednesday.
Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said Deputy Craig Ashley, assigned as the Clay Township Community Policing Deputy, observed a vehicle in the 7600 block of Ohio 139 driving with a vehicle defect about 1:10 a.m. Ashley initiated a traffic stop, where he reports observing suspicious materials in the vehicle.
With the assistance of the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force and Portsmouth Municipal Court Probation Department who responded to the scene, the vehicle was searched, suspected methamphetamine materials were seized and Oliver was taken into custody. Oliver was placed in the Scioto County Jail and is being held on a $10,000 bond, pending an arraignment in Portsmouth Municipal Court. On the charge of probation violation, Oliver is being held without bond.
Donini said anyone wishing to leave drug information for the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force should contact the Sheriff’s Office drug line at 740-351-1094, the Portsmouth Police Department drug line at 740-354-DRUG (3784), or email drugs@sciotocountysheriff.com.
