SCSO: Suspect flees out third floor window

FRANK LEWIS

PDT Staff Writer

A raid at the Super 8 Motel on U.S. 23 north on Monday in Rosemount resulted in one suspect jumping from a third floor window, and two others taken into immediate custody on drug charges.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said members of the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force, which consists of narcotics detectives from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, the Portsmouth Police Dept., and agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, executed a narcotics-related search warrant about 6:44 p.m. Monday at room 309 of the Super 8 Motel.

According to Donini, narcotics detectives were in the process of forcing entry into the room when Aaron W. Anderson, 31, Portsmouth, jumped from the window of the third floor room onto the parking lot where law enforcement personnel were waiting. Daniel D. Washington Jr., 29, of 1217 Ninth St., Portsmouth, and Darnell A. Wilcox, 33, of 1870 Kipling Ave., Dayton, were secured inside the room by detectives.

Upon a search of the room, narcotics detectives said they seized about 47 grams of suspected heroin, digital scales containing suspected heroin residue, an unspecified amount of marijuana, a loaded firearm, and about $1,700 cash. Detectives said Anderson was in possession of suspected heroin and about $2,000 cash, which were seized.

Anderson was treated at the scene by the Clay Township Squad and eventually flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital in West Virginia, where he was listed Tuesday in stable condition. Wilcox and Washington were arrested and charged with trafficking in heroin, possession of heroin and having a weapon while under disability, all felonies.

Wilcox and Washington were arraigned Tuesday in Portsmouth Municipal Court. Bonds for both were set at $90,000, and they are scheduled back in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Thursday. Wilcox was arrested prior to the search warrant on May 29 on a felony possession of heroin by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Wilcox posted a $20,000 bond and has charges pending with a Scioto County grand jury.

Cases against Wilcox, Washington and Anderson will be forwarded to the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office to be presented to a Scioto County grand jury. Donini said anyone wanting to leave drug information for the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force can contact the Sheriff’s Office drug line at 740-351-1094, the Portsmouth Police Department drug line at 740-354-DRUG (3784), or email drugs@sciotocountysheriff.com. He said all information will be kept confidential and anonymous.
