Joel 3:14 reads - “Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.” Bryan Davis, one of the volunteers working with the drama, “Cavern of Choices,” at the White Gravel Mines in Minford, said last year 1,250 people attended the drama, and of those who attended, 106 people made professions of faith.

“For years the mines were used for some really bad stuff. People would go out there and party and carry on. There was a lot of drinking and drugs,” Davis said. “A local family, the Marting family from out in Minford, purchased the mines a few years ago. They cleaned it up, made it safe. They even ran electrical through the mines. It’s pretty amazing. And they wanted to use it for good, something that would benefit the community.”

“Young people and adults from several area churches have come together. There is a drama, called ‘The Cavern of Choices,’ and basically there are several scenes set up inside the mines,” Davis said. “Tours will me taken through every 15 minutes, and there are tour guides to take you through from scene to scene. Those scenes depict real life things that happen right here in Scioto County.”

Davis said the story centers around what happens when a group of teenagers go out to the mines for a night of fun.

“There’s some things that happen. I don’t want to give too much away, of course,” Davis said. “But there’s some things that happen in those scenes; there are choices that are made, and because of those choices there’s consequences. We see those consequences play out in the scenes.”

Davis said people come through the drama and view each of the scenes.

“At the end they’re challenged with that,” Davis said. “Our prayer is that people, if they are in that lifestyle, will see what the ramifications of that can be, and that there is a better way, that they can live a life that is good.”

The dates this year are Friday, Nov. 16, Saturday, Nov. 17, Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Nov. 24, from 7 p.m. until midnight each night.

Davis said those staging the event had groups going in every half hour last year, and this year they are able to take those groups through every 15 minutes, since they have learned how to handle larger crowds.

“We’re trying to use it to speak to the problems in our community,” Davis said. “This drug abuse and alcoholism and all these things such as physical abuse - we have a lot of domestic violence. These kinds of things are addressed in this drama and the actors are just phenomenal.”

Davis said people can make group reservations or get more information by calling 740-776-0510. There will also be concessions this year so that people can get something to eat while they are waiting.

The White Gravel Mines are located at 4217 White Gravel McDaniel Road in Minford.
