LUCASVILLE — The 116th Scioto County Fair got underway on Monday, with hundreds of patrons in attendance before noon. The 20 amusement rides, including rides such as the Sea Ray, and Vortex, which were set to open at noon had been tested to ensure safe operation.

Many patrons were visiting the concession stands, which consist of popular foods such as funnel cakes, elephant ears, french fries, pizza, and much more. The schedule for day one of the fair was fully-loaded with, livestock shows, many high school band performances, and live entertainment by the U.S Freestyle Motocross Championship Series in the grandstand area.

Eager patrons gathered at the Sea Ray amusement ride for the first ride of the 2012 fair. The crowd appeared to become somewhat impatient, as they stood in line, waiting for the operator of the Sea Ray to open the gate and begin the ride.

“Ride! Ride! Ride!”patrons in the line shouted, cheerfully, expressing their readiness to ride.

“We check everything on the ride twice a day, everyday, to make sure that everything is safe. Everybody just does their job” William Boyleston said, operator of the Sea Ray. “This is my second year to operate this ride, and I have never had any problems at all. This is one of the most popular rides here at the fair. I’d say it makes about 3,000 rides each day.”

Boyleston said that patrons that ride the Sea Ray range from elementary school to senior citizens, and that the only requirement to ride the Sea Ray is a height requirement of 54 inches.

The Sea Ray amusement ride received excellent reviews from three of its riders after completing first ride of the season.

“Its awesome. I ride this ride at least five times each time that I am here,” Megan Carver of Sciotoville said.

“I love this ride. We always have a contest to see which side can scream the loudest, each year, and I ride at least 10 to 15 times that I am here,” Kirsten Hewey of Franklin Furnace said.

“There is nothing bad about this ride, I love it, and the game we play on it makes it even more fun,” Ali Ison of Franklin Furnace said.
