One dead after Lucasville fire

FRANK LEWIS

PDT Staff Writer

The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office has identified the person killed in a Lucasville fire. Lee R. McCall, 60, of 362 Carter St. was found inside his residence by fire fighters after they got the fire under control. Injured in the fire was Kurt McCall, 36, of the same address. He was taken by helicopter to a Huntington, West Virginia burn unit.

The Morgan Township Fire Department responded to the fire at around 1 p.m. Monday where they found Kurt McCall suffering from major burns to his body. It was then that the fire department was advised there was still a victim inside who could not get out. After they got the fire under control they found Lee R. McCall lying face down in the corner of the living room. Two other people escaped the fire.

Scioto County Coroner Dr. Darren Adams ordered the body transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office. Two investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office were at the scene and, according to Shane Cartmill, public information officer, that department is actively involved in investigating the fire.

Late Tuesday, Cartmill said the fire did not originate in a bedroom as previously stated in an earlier media release. The fire was contained to a single room. Cartmill said the use of smoke detectors is unknown.
