The driver of a truck that overturned on Lucasville-Minford Road near Clarktown has been transferred to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. Thomas A. Sammons, 32, of Sciotoville, was driving a truck for CSX Corporation Tuesday morning when the truck overturned in the yard of a house in the 4000 block. He was first transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center before being transferred to Columbus.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the rollover gave authorities a scare since the truck was hauling oxygen and acetylene at the time. Several agencies, including the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the scene and immediately began the process of making the scene safe by removing oxygen and acetylene tanks.

Gahm’s Wrecker Service arrived on the scene to roll the truck over and remove it.

“We used a 60 ton hydraulic wrecker,” Brian Gahm said. “We just rolled it back over and winched it back out of there and towed it here. It helps when you have the equipment to do it with. It makes it easier.”

Gahm said the truck was headed toward Minford when it apparently slipped off the right side of the road and shot back across the road, rolling over.

“When that thing came back across the road it hit that soft dirt and it just dug in,” Gahm said. “Then it flipped over.”

Gahm said the truck has a welding machine behind the cab and is loaded with railroad equipment, including cranes on the top, making them extremely top-heavy.
