Claire Sines, Pure American Pageant’s reigning Miss Ohio Tot Queen, is a bright-eyed, happy child who has a positive personality, the ability to speak in public, and who enjoys competing under the Pure American Pageant format.

“She received the title of Miss Ohio Tot in April of this year in Columbus. She is five years old. At the age of four she won Miss Ohio River preliminary queen last October,” Beth Sines, Claire’s mother said. “The next step, Claire will be participating in the national pageant which is held in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. And that will be July 10 through July 14. She will be competing with four and five year olds for Tot queen for her age group.”

Pure American Pageants is a Christian faith-based natural pageant system.

“Pure is different from other pageants, where they focus on training and teaching young girls and young women - and they have older groups as well - to achieve, lead and inspire, which are the three words they use to describe their system,” Beth Sines said. “It’s natural where the little girls do not wear makeup or anything fake, and focus more on speaking skills and public service such as the community event Claire is participating in today.”

Wednesday, decked out in her sash, Claire made the rounds at the annual James Dickey Post 23 American Legion Nursing Home Veterans Picnic at the Shawnee Boat Club serving punch and cookies. Helping veterans is not new to her. Claire’s father, Michael Sines is an Iraq veteran and a member of the Portsmouth Fire Department, and her father’s father, Donald Sines, is a Vietnam veteran.

“What I like most at the pageant is my modeling,” the precocious five-year-old said, as she took a short break with a fruit cup. “And I like saying my speech.”

According to their website, “Pure American Pageants strive to promote the values of good self-esteem and self-confidence in women and girls of all ages. We encourage dreams and gives our ladies the tools and opportunities needed to achieve them. We strive to teach strong professional qualities so ladies can be more effective and efficient workers in the professional world. Pure American Pageants is founded on Christian beliefs. By using positive words and actions, we hope to transform lives, advocate Christian lifestyles, and aid individuals in growing a relationship with Christ.”
