Ravinah, a dog dropped off near Shawnee Animal Clinic and Sierra’s Haven, was struck by a car. Now funds are being sought to pay for her surgery at The Ohio State University in Columbus.

When people just decided to discard their animals, they are often putting those animals in danger. One such person did that with a dog recently.
“We have about a year old, very sweet, pit bull mix, that someone threw out of a car close to Shawnee Animal Clinic, thinking probably it would run up to Sierra’s (Haven, animal shelter), and it got hit by a car and fell down into that big ravine behind the clinic,” Dr. Gail Counts, operator of both facilities, said. “We got her out of there, and she had a really bad fracture of her front leg - it was so serious, it was right where the tendon attached, so it is nothing I can do. So we are going to have to send her to Ohio State for an orthopedist to fix it.”
Counts said the surgery will cost between $2,000 and $2,500 for Ravinah, so named because she fell into a ravine. Counts said OSU is giving her a special price because of the circumstances. Counts indicated there will also be need for after-care following the surgery.
“We’re only asking for donations to raise money to get her fixed up at OSU,” Counts said.
People can make donations at either Shawnee Animal Clinic or Sierra’s Haven Animal Shelter. Those facilities are located on Bierly Road in Portsmouth. Checks should be made out to Sierra’s Haven.
“We are sure the community will help us out,” Counts said. “She’s a sweet dog.”
