Hundreds of elementary school students from across Scioto County participated Wednesday in the ninth annual Ag Adventures Day at the Scioto County Fairgrounds.
“The students are going through about 19 different stations, where they are learning about different topics related to agriculture. Stations included learning about goats, learning about economics, horses and many others,” said Leanne Fuhrmann, coordinator for Scioto County Ag Adventures Day.
“We have about 583 fourth-graders and a few third-graders from various schools, learning about agriculture,” Fuhrmann said. Participating schools included Valley, Portsmouth, Portsmouth East, Minford, Clay, New Boston and Northwest.
She said Ag Adventures Day is important because it brings the classrooms outside for a hands-on activity, which teaches the students about an industry that affects everyone.
A competition is held every year for the design of the Ag Adventures Day T-shirt. This year’s winning design came from Alex Glockner of Notre Dame Elementary.
“The county commissioners selected the winning design, of the 300 submitted designs,” Fuhrmann said.
Every student who participated in the day’s activities received a T-shirt with Glockner’s design.
