Scioto County student receives OU award

Frank Lewis

PDT Staff Writer

Crystal Marie Jordan of Portsmouth, has been awarded a scholarship from Ohio University in recognition for her academic achievements.

Jordan, a graduate student majoring in nursing, received the Outstanding Graduates in Nursing MSN at a ceremony on April 12 on the university’s campus in Athens. Jordan was one of 176 students to be honored by Ohio University’s College of Health Sciences and Professions, but one of three to receive the Outstanding Graduates in Nursing MSN.

Jordan graduated from Northwest High School, received her Bachelor’s Degree from Shawnee State University and her Masters Degree from OU.

Jordan received the “Outstanding Graduate in Nursing—MSN” from the College of Health Sciences and Professions at Ohio University’s 34th Annual Student Awards and Recognition Reception. During this Awards Reception, Ohio University recognized students and faculty for their excellent academic and personal achievements.

“I was told probably a week before that I was going to get it, and I went to the reception,” Jordan said. “You know how you get e-mails, well, at first I thought it was fraud, so I talked to the director of my school, and she said, ‘yes, you’re the only one with a Master’s Degree to get the award. I was really shocked. I felt really honored.”

Jordan said she is hoping to work in pediatrics at Southern Ohio Medical Center.

“I plan to stay in the area,” Jordan said. “I want to work in pediatrics or family practice.”

Also honored with that award were Jahnna Lydic (BSN)of Albany, Ohio and Lidiya Slyvka (BSA) of Athens.
