Wheelersburg man arrested for aggravated robbery

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini has charged Aaron Pack, 24, of Wheelersburg with aggravated robbery. He said his office has currently been investigating an armed robbery that occurred on Sept. 4 at Bailey’s BP located at 4321 Gallia Pike, Franklin Furnace. A clerk told detectives he was approached by a male subject wearing a bandana over part of his face, along with gloves and pointing a small handgun at him. Then Lloyd BP in Greenup County, KY was robbed by a subject matching the same description on Sept. 10. This time, the man jumped over the counter brandishing a large knife and demanded money.

On Sept. 21, a man brandishing a handgun robbed Hopper’s Carry Out in Hanging Rock, OH.

Donini said his detectives were able to come up with a possible suspect and have been working on several leads which included several individuals being questioned.

On Friday, detectives picked the suspect up again for questioning, and during this questioning, the suspect did admit to robbing the BP in Franklin Furnace, BP in Lloyd, KY and Hopper’s in Hanging Rock. Donini said his office has contacted the Greenup County Sheriff’s Office and the Hanging Rock Police Department and forwarded a copy of the interview to them for charges.

Pack has been charged with one count of aggravated robbery, a felony of the 1st degree, and is being held on a $20,000 bond and will appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Monday.

Donini said more charges will be presented to the Scioto County Grand Jury at a later date.

Meanwhile, New Boston Police Captain Steve Goins says the arrest of Pack has solved several crimes in the Village of New Boston. Goins said over the last several days, there has been numerous reports of thefts from several New Boston stores involving the same suspects and suspect vehicle. The Shoe Show store reported two incidents, one last week and another one on Oct. 29 where a male had come into the store and had taken a pair of shoes then ran out of the store, got into a maroon colored Oldsmobile and sped from the scene. The Goody’s Clothing Store reported two theft incidents on Oct. 28 involving the same suspects. The one white male suspect came into Goody’s and took an arm load of clothing and ran out of the store and got into the same maroon Oldsmobile. Then a couple of hours later, a black male had come into the store and also took an arm load of clothing, left the store, got into the same maroon Oldsmobile and the suspects sped off.

On Oct. 31, Hibbett’s Sporting Goods reported that a male came into the store and ran out of the store with an arm load of clothing items and again ran to a maroon Oldsmobile. The descriptions of the suspect male and suspect vehicle were the same as in the other thefts.

NBPD officers were able to develop the lead to identify one of the suspects as Pack, listing him as living in Portsmouth. Since identifying Pack as one of the suspects, NBPD had been actively looking for Pack. On Thursday, Nov. 1, at around 8:30 p.m., NBPD officers and officers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol who were participating in the OSHP Criminal Shield Detail Program within Scioto County were able to locate Pack at a residence on Vinton Avenue in Portsmouth and he was taken into custody. Pack was taken to NBPD for processing and later confessed to all of the thefts.

The NBPD is still currently investigating the crimes that occurred in their jurisdiction to identify the second male suspect who is described as a tall black male weighing about 200 pounds.

The NBPD says Pack is currently charged with three counts of thefts, all first degree misdemeanors.
