An apparent love triangle has reportedly resulted in the death of one man and the arrest of another man on a charge of first degree murder. A Lucasville man, Jeff Waller, 24, has been charged with one count of murder, a felony of the first degree and tampering with evidence, a felony of the third degree in the death of James A. Thurman, 33, of 890 McNamer Brown Rd., in Lucasville.

“Anna Thurman made a 911 call and she advised that her husband had just been shot by her boyfriend, and his name is Jeff Waller, of that same address. So we have three occupants living at the same address” Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said. “And according to the witness statement, which is the wife, she and Jeff Waller were in a back bedroom, sitting on a bed on the floor, and the victim, James Thurman, came into the bedroom and kicked the suspect (Waller), without any provocation, at which time, Anna jumped up between the two of them to stop James from further assaulting the suspect, at which time the suspect grabbed a loaded shotgun and shot the victim in the stomach. He (Waller) apparently left the scene and was walking down the road.”

That is when a deputy saw Waller and confronted him.

“He (Waller) actually raised his hands and said he was the shooter and the deputy approached him and took control,” Donini said. “Then we had a second deputy that showed up and he actually took possession of the suspect, and the original officer went to the scene.”

Thurman was found wounded on a porch at 890 McNamer Brown Rd., in Lucasville and was, according to deputies, coherent at the time and told the officer Waller had shot him.

Donini said the victim was transported by squad to Valley High School, then taken by helicopter to Cabell Huntington Hospital. Hospital officials contacted the detectives at 3 a.m. and advised that the victim was deceased.

Donini said detectives consulted with Scioto County Prosecutor Mark Kuhn about the case which resulted in the suspect being charged with first degree murder, and there will also be a charge of tampering with evidence.

“Those charges were again the result of consulting with the County Prosecutor,” Donini said. “We always consult with the County Prosecutor on shootings. A lot of people didn’t realize that until recently. The bottom line is, it is his job to prosecute and it’s our job to investigate. If we overcharge it could create a problem. If we undercharge it could create a problem. He hears a brief summary of what we know at the time, and based on what we have at the time, he advises us what charges to file, if any.”

Kuhn was in the Detective Bureau Tuesday morning going over the case with detectives because since the victim expired, now it’s a murder case.

Waller was held without bond pending an appearance in Portsmouth Municipal Court.

Donini said anyone with any information concerning the case should contact detective Denver Triggs at 740-351-7332

WOW, they really arrested the shooter?? That is amazing. A man defends his home from interlopers and is killed in his own home. Sounds familiar to me. RIP James Thurman. I have known you since you were about 10 years old this is a sad end to your young life.

I bet the assualt was over his kids! Of course the wife wouldn't say her boyfriend had done something to James' kid, but I am sure that is what it started over!

I'm not really sure as to what exactly went down up until the trigger was pulled on that shotgun..I'm just stunned the only word you have is based off a woman who knowingly brought a man she was seeing into her marriage that was not over and into her home with her husband and children,it's clear to me this woman has played a part in that man's killing more than anybody realizes. My question is why was there a loaded shotgun in the room?Who was it registered to?AND what provoked him attacking jeff waller that night? My hunch tells me that mans wife is to blame and Jeff Waller was just a dumb lovesick puppy who did what she wanted him to do,in no way am I saying he's not responsible I'm sure he is theone that actually shot that man,but there was more to it that that just look at the evidence and find the evidence you SHOULD be looking for!!I'm actually shocked they didn't investigate HER for at least playing a part in this yes Jeff Waller pulled the Trigger but for all we know she could have loaded the shotgun and hid it in that room with them and gave him a sob story bout how she wants out of her marriage which CLEARLY she did folks this is a fact or she wouldn't be having another man in her house around her family while she's still married!!!Anybody foolish enough to bring that upon her own children is dangerously unstable...HOW could you not see trouble brewing from arranging that situation?I think Anna Thurman should have been charged with conspiring with him if not for nothing else or maybe involuntary manslaughter.ODDLY enough her house burnt down that week too..are the gears turning people? I would assume she set the fire to hide anything she thought could have incriminated her...alot of things don't add up here..she wants freedom from her husband he's gone and her flavor of the week BF is in prison for a very long time and this nutjob walks free?IF ONLY you guys could have seen that girl's facebook...I seen a status update a week before that shooting on her page she said something to the effect of 'I can't believe they are not killing each other' yes she used killing each other per batem :/ talkin bout how she allowed this situation to take place having them both in the same house I bet it was HER IDEA to even have it like that in the first place!!that woman is just as much to blame for that man's death than Jeff Waller is mark my words Karma will come around to her using that poor kid for her own selfish desires and I think in the end she knows it was her pullin the strings on gettin that man killed I don't believe the 'he attacked jeff unprovoked' bull either..how do we not know she instigated this argumen?I feel like the cops really just made alot of assumption as to where the guilt lies as to WHO is repsonsible for that man's death.Yes I agree he shot him...what I don't agree with is how they just chalked it up to being just him to blame...I feel bad for that man's children they are the ones that suffer because their mother is clearly crazy and responsible for him losing his life..I do not feel a damn bit sorry for his wife it's her damn fault this happened and it's so clear to see.If your not happy in your marriage divorce and move on seperate your married life from your acting like your single and out on the prowl life..just burns me the f up how that woman can post crap on her FB sayin all kinds of weird sh*t bout how she can't believe they 'get along' etc...drinkin beer and smokin dope too all up in her pics... don't stay married and invite new men into your still married home!!WTF people gimme a break!I know some would be like oh that's great tho cause she can stay with her kids etc well in my opinion a woman that crazy shouldn't be allowed to keep her kids they will grow up one day and if they look at what happened I'm sure they will be like uhhh this don't make sense too...She is to blame as well as him
