CLAY TOWNSHIP — Clay Township Trustees decided at their last meeting they will not, at this time, be able to open the Clay Community Pool this season. Trustee Bill Runyon said they will continue searching for funds that might allow them to open the pool later in the season.

“We don’t want it to close, but unless there’s some money that comes in, we can’t open it,” Runyon said. “I’m actually working on some stuff trying to get some (money) … I just talked to a gentleman and we’re going to retain him to do this stuff.”

The pool was built in the early 1960s and has never had any major renovations. Formerly called Rosemount Pool, the trustees took ownership in the early 1980s. Runyon said attendance at the community pool has dropped over the years, as more people have pools in their own backyards.

The pool needs major renovations, which include fixing major water leaks that cost more than trustees can afford to spend. Runyon said keeping the pool open costs the township $30,000 a year more than the pool earns, and he estimated it would cost $250,000 to get it back in shape.

“We’re still digging and trying hard,” Runyon said.

It sounds like they should have been doing some routine maintenance every year. Ignoring small problems has brought them to the point they need a quarter million dollars just to open the pool. Everyone had to buy a membership to use the pool when it first opened. Has this been looked at as a revenue source? It will take more than a bake sale to raise that money. I wonder if there are any organizations with "deep pockets" that have benefited tax-wise from being in the Rosemount area that could come to the rescue. Maybe a family-owned business or two...?

"Digging and trying hard" The Scioto County's "breathing room?" How much work did you do today? A Lot.............

No money and they "retained" $$$ someone, hope it's on a contingency, percentage of funds raised

and not nepotism, etc.

Oh, Volunteer parents, you can fix it it all? They are your kiddos.

What has the Township spent in the last few years, no since the 80's since they owned it. Maybe like the USDA they will tell you it will cost you and they need the permission of someone who's not likely to agree to do that to give you that information and records?

Get Portsmouth to take the pool over for $1, what's more deficit's? They pay all your court processing costs, free of charge.

Or a School District that should care what their kids during the summer break, do they care about the kids, or just digging and trying hard?

Built in the 60's taken over in the 80's from who?

30 - 40 years no maintenance, who's keeps getting reelected???
