The 22nd Summer Outreach Camp 2012 began with a bang as kids came out in record numbers for the first day.
“We have about 65 kids registered so far, looks like we have about 50 kids here, so this is a pretty good registration. Typically, we have about 35 or 40 kids the first day, and it kind of grows during the first week. With 65 kids registered, so it looks like its going to be a busy summer, ” said Clarence Parker, Outreach Camp coordinator.
He said the camp gives them the chance to make a difference in the lives of children.
“I went over the rules with the kids earlier. We try to teach them to have respect for themselves, for other people, for authority, or other people’s property,” Parker said.
He said those concepts are new to some of the children who attend.
“Some of the kids come from environments where there are no rules and guidelines, so it’s going to be new to them. And so it’s exciting to have the opportunity work with them, and teach them some things, and take them some places, that some of them may not have been before, or have not had an opportunity to go,” Parker said.
