PDT Staff Report

The Portsmouth Daily Times is in the process of producing a 2013 calendar for its subscribers, but the newspaper needs help from its audience.

The 2013 calendar will include pictures from local residents as the art from each month of the calendar. People can go online and submit their images to the Daily Times website, www.portsmouth-dailytimes.com.

“The themes for the calendar are the four season of the year,” said Michael Messerly, Daily Times General Manager. “We want pictures that are obviously from the area that best reflect one of the four seasons. We do need people to be aware that anything under copyright will not be included in the calendar. Also, people should avoid sending us images that have been doctored by many image filtering software that exists.”

The deadline to submit images is fast approaching as they must be entered into the contest no later than noon on Oct. 31.

The calendar will be sent to Daily Times subscribers for free. The main sponsor of the calendar is Southern Ohio Medical Center with businesses such as Daymar College and Dr. Thomas Khoury also sponsoring individual months to defray the costs to Daily Times subscribers. A number of extra calendar copies will also be available for those who have pictures chosen to be included in the calendar.

If pictures submitted by the Daily Times audience are not chosen for the calendar, Messerly says they may still be put to good use.

“We would probably use a number of images on our Facebook page for cover art,” Messerly said. “We currently have one up of the Portsmouth High School Marching Band and we’d like to update that image with other images from the community.”

The images used in the calendar will be chosen by the Daily Times staff and members of the Boneyfiddle Arts Center. The arts center has monthly photo contests for the community, and in February of this year served as the host of an art/history exhibition of the Daily Times and Portsmouth High School.
