SOLACE (Surviving Our Loss And Continuing Everyday) — a group created for those who have lost a loved one to a drug-related death — held a celebration Friday to mark the opening of their office on Scioto Trail.

The event featured several gust speakers including, Orman Hall, Director of the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (ODADAS), as well as representatives from the Attorney General’s Office, the Drug Free Action Alliance and from other SOLACE chapters.

“When you consider the scope and the magnitude of the opiate epidemic in the state and how much it has impacted communities throughout Ohio, Scioto County was the first community to stand up and recognize the extreme nature of this problem,” Hall said.

Hall also took some time to praise the work of SOLACE and the impact it’s had on the state.

“The work that’s being done in this community by SOLACE is incredibly important. This (opening of the office) is chapter one, this is where it all begins. The work that SOLACE of Scioto County is doing is having a profound impact all over the state,” he said.

The SOLACE group has establish an office at 2837 Scioto Trail, Portsmouth. The location previously was a pain clinic for a short period of time in the spring of 2011. Krohn said the group has needed a place for a while and is hopeful the space can be used as a resource for the community. The space includes a memorial room, featuring photos of people who were victims of drug-related deaths.
